Why doesn’t anemia go away?
Self-medication of anemia with preparations containing iron is unacceptable — only a doctor can calculate the necessary and safe dosage. But you can increase the effectiveness of the prescribed medication. In doing so, it is important to know the following:
Competing calcium interferes with iron absorption. Therefore, if you are prescribed both trace elements, take calcium in the morning and iron at night;
Iron supplements are better absorbed when taken in the afternoon;
Iron in capsules is absorbed more slowly, which means more efficiently;
Orange juice, rich in vitamin C, or a small amount of dry white wine, on the contrary, promotes the active absorption of this substance;
The most preferred preparations contain, in addition to iron, vitamin C, group B and folic acid;
It is better to take iron preparations not during, but in the intervals between meals;
Coffee and tea, drunk immediately before or after taking iron, interfere with its absorption.
